Hey guys, welcome back to SlogVlog! After a long time I will be doing a post which basically not about cricket, but also is about cricket. This post will be on former BCCI President Raj Singh Dungarpur and India’s one and only Nightingale, Lata Mangeshkar. This post is going to talk about their love for each other and their love for cricket. Shoutout to the youtube Channel Cricketraaz for inspiring me to do this post! This story is one of the most inspiring stories of all time! Even though they weren’t married, their relationship is so inspiring!

Briefly About Raj Singh Dungarpur:
Maharaj Raj Singh was born on 19th December 1935 to the king of Dungarpur, Laxman Singh. He grew up in Dungarpur, then known as Rajputana. He was really interested in cricket; all he wanted to do was become a cricketer. According to stats from the internet, Raj Singh was a Ranji Player for more than 16 years. He has studied at Daly College Indore. Raj Singh was the president of CCI (Cricket Club Of India) for about 13 years. He then became the President of the BCCI in the ’80s. He was also the Late Lata Mangeshkar’s romantic partner for her whole life. I’ll come to this topic later.
Briefly About Lata Mangeshkar:
Lata Mangeshkar (Born Hema Mangeshkar) was born on 28th September 1929 and died on 6th February 2022. As we all know, she was an Indian Playback Singer with a career spanning 8 decades. She got honorific titles- Queen Of Melody, Voice Of The Millenium and the most famous of all, The Nightingale Of India.
She received many accolades and Honours throughout her career. In 1989, she received the Dadasaheb Phalke Award from the Government Of India. In 2001 she received the Highest Civilian Honour Of India, Bharat Ratna.
In her 80-year career she had won many, many, many film awards, including- Three National Film Awards, 15 Bengal Film Journalists’ Association Awards, four Filmfare Awards for best playback singer Female, two Filmfare special awards, the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award and many more.
In 1974, she was one of the first Indian playback singers to perform at the Royal Albert Hall in London, UK. Her last recorded song was in 2019, a tribute song for our nation’s soldiers. The song was called- Saughandh Mujhe Is Mitti Ki.
Her long-term romantic partner was Raj Singh Dungarpur.
How They Met:
A young 24 year old Raj Singh had come to Mumbai to study law. First he came and searched for a place where he could play cricket. He stayed at his sisters place in Mumbai, he told his friend Sopan Sardesai that he needed to play cricket no matter what so he told him to find a place to play cricket. This became his daily routine- Go to college, come back and play cricket, go back to sisters place.
One day, his new friend Hridaynath Mangeshkar, invited him to his house. Hridaynath Mangeshkar was some sought of a celebrity, he sang songs in movies, and it seems he had this sister, ummm what was her name??? It started with the letter L and ended with A, UGH WHY CAN’T I REMEMBER IT! Ah right! Lata Mangeshkar, even she I think used to sing songs for movies.
Anyway, Hridaynath Mangeshkar invited Raj Singh to his house because his family wondered, who is this Ranji Trophy player who plays tennis ball cricket with Hridaynath. Raj Singh agreed because the cricket ground was also nearby there house. So he went to meet them.
Raj Singh enters, as soon as he enters he sees this beautiful young lady, Lata Mangeshkar asking him whether he would like tea or coffee, he is mesmerized. That they both of them smiled and talked a lot.
Then on the festival of Nariyal Poornima, Hridaynath Mangeshkar calls Raj Singh again, and Raj Singh comes. He was narrating his Ranji stories to everyone and Lata Mangeshkar, the lady singer who charms others by singing her songs with her beautiful voice, today was spell bound by Raj Singh. If this wasn’t love then what was it?
Both of them after that kept on meeting each other. Now, for this first time, Raj Singh had interest in something else then cricket. Actually someone, that someone was Lata Mangeshkar. Love started blooming, the Mangeshkar family approved of it. Raj Singh was now seen more in the Mangeshkar house then the cricket ground. This love story started blooming into a beautiful flower, but, the question now is, will Raj Singh’s family approve? Will they allow this love story to properly bloom and become a beautiful flower?
