How To Play A Good Front Foot Drive:

Hey guys, welcome back to my blog- SlogVlog! In today’s post, we will learn how to play front-foot drive, one of the most beautiful shots in cricket.

There are three types of front foot drives.

  1. Cover Drive- A drive towards the covers region between Covers and Cover Point
  2.  Straight Drive- A straight industry is hit in a straight line between the V (Mid Off, Mid On or Long Off and Long On).
  3.  On drive- A drive which is hit towards the on side. It is towards Mid On.

These are the three types of front foot drives.

The other types of drives are Backfoot drive and lofted drive.

Now the lofted drive is a drive that is hit with power and timing and hit above the fielder.

After all the basic shots, we will come to lofted drives and loft shots.

The Next tutorial post will be on Backfoot Drive.

Coming back to front-foot drives.

All three drives need the same technique. Whether it’s Cover Drive, Straight Drive or On Drive.

The only difference between the straight drive and cover drive is that in the cover drive, you need to reach further to get to the ball and drive, that means a bigger stride is needed, while in the straight drive, you don’t have to reach as much, but you do have to reach the ball, in every drive.

Let’s start this post now:

Step 1:

The first step of any shot is always to take a proper stance. Feet should be at shoulder distance. Body straight, and head straight. A good stance is equivalent to a good posture, which will see and hit the ball. The head should be straight. And the eyes of the batsman should always be towards the bowler’s hand, and then when the bowler releases the ball, the eyes should be on the ball till he/she hits it and it goes to the fielder or for a boundary.

Step 2:

Stride Time! Take a proper and good stride to hit the ball. Tall people have the advantage of having a considerable stride which helps them reach the ball better, and they don’t have to put in extra effort. With the stride, you should lift your bat as well. This lifting of the bat is known as the bat lift. With the bat lift, you get more momentum, also.

Step 3:

Don’t keep your bat face too open, nor keep it closed. Open in a sense, keep it from pointing too much towards the third man or backward point, and closed meaning, don’t make your bat point too much towards the fine leg. The bat should be. Pointing between the third man and the keeper, or it should be facing the keeper. This step is important. Not a step, but it is essential.

Step 4:

Take your bat back and high, and then with your body, go towards the ball, and hit it for a beautiful drive. Your head must be straight, and you must always look at the ball. A drive should be hit with your top hand (left hand if you’re a righty and right hand if you’re a lefty), and of course, your stride should be there, as mentioned in Step 2. And after you hit the ball, keep watching it and take runs accordingly or watch it go to the boundary.

So that’s it! These steps may look very simple, but I can guarantee you will find it hard when you practice drives. The drive seems like an easy shot to play, but it is challenging. Hitting a pull or a cut is much easier than a drive.

Anyways, I hope all of you enjoyed reading this post! If yes, then please stay tuned for more upcoming posts.
