Hey, guys welcome back to SlogVlog today since today is Michael Hussey’s birthday I thought I should write about his cricketing career.
Michael Edward Killeen Hussey (born 27 May 1975) is an Australian cricket coach, commentator and former international cricketer, who played all forms of the game. Hussey is also widely known by his nickname ‘Mr Cricket’.
International Career:
ODI Cricket:
Hussey made his debut for Australia at the age of 30 years. He played his first ODI match against India in 2004. In this match, Hussey made 17* helping Australia win the match by five wickets. On October 9th 2005 Hussey became the first batsman to hit the roof of the Telstra Dome. In 2006 Hussey captained Australia for the first time in his career. This happened because of Australia’s rotation policy. Michael’s captaincy record is not good he had captained Australia for 4 matches and he lost all four of them.
In the first ODI of the 2008 Bangladesh ODI series, Hussey top-scored with 85 and received the Man Of The Match Award (MOM) . This coincided with his rise to second in the ICC ODI player rankings. After being initially left out Hussey returned for the 2011 World Cup as a replacement for Doug Bollinger.
Test Cricket:
Michael Hussey made his Test debut on November 3rd 2005 as a replacement for Justin Langer. Hussey only made 1 run in that test but in the following test, he scored 137 and 31* and he was named Man Of The Match. In the third test, Hussey scored 133 and 30* bringing his Test Average to 120.
He played his final Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground, the last of Australia’s three match series against Sri Lanka. In the first innings he was run out for 25 , while in the second innings he guided Australia to victory with 27*.
T20 Cricket:
Hussey played in the inaugural edition of the ICC T20 World Cup in 2007 in which Australia got knocked out in the Semi-Finals.
He played in all of Australia’s matches, scoring 65 runs with a best of 37 but unfortunately he pulled his hamstring during the match. So this prevented him from playing in Australia Tour Of India.
In May 2010, he scored 60 runs off 24 balls against Pakistan in the semi-final of the ICC T20 World Cup which helped Australia go into the final.
Thank you Michael Hussey for all your contribution to Australian Cricket. Happy Birthday!
