How To Play Front Foot Defence In Cricket:

Now, for many people, the front foot defence looks very easy. Let me tell you something it is not easy to play front-foot defence. It needs a lot of technique and patience. I’ll be telling you how to play a perfect defence shot. Let’s start.

Step 1: Take your stance:

Without taking your stance, you can’t play any shot. So always take a good and proper stance before playing any shot. \Your feet should be shoulder-width apart, with your weight evenly distributed on both feet. Your bat face should not be too open but should not be too close. Your head should be straight looking at the ball, from the point of release till you hit the ball.

Step 2: Take your stride:

In defence, the length of your stride plays a vital role. The longer your stride, the lower the chances of getting out. A well-timed stride will naturally position your bat to block the stumps, making it even more challenging for the bowler to dismiss you.

It’s important to note that the length of one’s stride is not solely determined by height. Other factors, such as flexibility, strength, and technique, can also play a significant role. While having a longer stride may provide some advantages, such as covering more ground with fewer steps, it’s not necessarily a measure of a “perfect” stride. It’s important to focus on proper form and technique rather than trying to force a certain stride length based on height alone.

In the picture above, look at how far his stride is. This is an example of a perfect stride. If you are tall, your stride will be better.

Step 3: Keep your top hand firm, but your bottom hand normally loose:

When playing the shot, it’s important to keep your top hand tight but your bottom hand loose. If you grip the bat too tightly with both hands, the ball may hit the bat hard and go up in the air, resulting in an easy catch for the fielding team. So, remember to keep your grip relaxed and let the top hand and the bat do the work.

Step 4: Watch the ball:

As you make contact with the ball, keep your head still and your eyes fixed on the ball. Your bat should be close to your pad, and your body should be behind the line of the ball. This will help you defend the ball with precision and control.

Step 5: Keep your bat lift high

For any shot keeping the bat lift high is a must. So always remember to keep the bat lifted high while playing. Then only you can get that impact. For playing defence, you don’t need a high back lift, but a small one or a medium-sized lift, like in the image below, is a must.

Step 6: Hit the Ball:

The last step is to hit the ball. With a good stride and good bat lift, by watching the ball, and only keep the top hand tight because, in defence, you do not need the bottom hand at all. And taking the proper stance, you can keep touching the ball. This will frustrate the bowler, and he will try to ball something unique and give you a chance. Then you can utilize that chance by hitting a HUGE SIX.
