Now, the 2000’s also had, great batsmen. So in this post, I’ll be talking about the TOP 7 BATSMAN IN THE EARLY 2000’S. Let’s start by looking at one batsman I have done many posts on, and that one batsman deserves many more posts. Can you all guess who it is? Yes it is Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
Wait, I think I am missing someone. Right! It is Sachin Tendulkar! How could I forget! Sorry MSD, but I need to write about Sachin first.
1. Sachin Tendulkar
He has ruled International Cricket for 25 YEARS with his batting. You can never compare him to someone; he is like the GOD OF BATTING. Sachin has scored 18,426 runs in ODI, which includes 49 Hundred.
In Test cricket, bowling to Sachin Tendulkar can Frustrate you like CRAZY. In Tests, he has scored 15,921 runs which include 51 hundred. This is because he keeps on defending the bowl, and he never gets out. This will make the bowler bowl a lousy bowl, allowing Sachin to hit you for a four, maybe even for a six.
Sachin has only played 1 T20 MATCH in his Entire Career. He has only scored 10 runs in the one match he played.
Sachin is the only player in cricketing history to have hit hundred hundreds.
2. Mahendra Singh Dhoni
Dhoni also needs no introduction. The progress he has made for Team India is incredible. Dhoni is known as the greatest finisher. Let us see why by looking at the stats.
In the Test matches he’s played, he has scored 4876 runs in 90 Tests. You guys might be surprised that he has achieved much fewer runs in the test despite being such a great batsman. I’ll tell you why. This is because he always goes in the middle order or the lower order. So that’s why he has scored such fewer runs. He has scored 6 hundreds in Test Cricket.
In ODI’s, Dhoni has scored 10,773 runs in 350 matches. Again you can be surprised that Dhoni has scored only 10,773 runs in 350 MATCHES! Whereas Virat Kohli has scored more than 12,000 runs in 250 matches, Okay, let’s be fair to Dhoni also scoring 10,773 runs batting at number 6 and number 7 is challenging for many reasons. First, when you come out, you don’t even know how the pitch will play, whereas the other batsman who has played ten overs can strike the ball quickly. Second, the bowlers of the opponent team have bowled over 40 overs, and they know how the pitch is, so they have a better view of how to bowl. Considering all this, Dhoni has first got to get set and take 3 – 4 overs to adapt to the pitch conditions. This is the reason Dhoni has scored “Only” 10,773 runs. Dhoni has scored 10 hundreds in ODI CRICKET.
Dhoni has played 98 T20 Matches and in the 98 matches he has played he has scored 1617 runs. This includes two 50’s and zero 100’s.
Dhoni has made more than 60% of his runs while chasing. He has finished the chase for Team India in 47 matches. He has hit the winning shot for 43 off them. He has finished 30 ODI’S, 10 T20’S, 3 TESTS. No wonder he is called the master finisher.

The following two batsmen are what you might call the masters of slogging.
3. Virender Sehwag
This batsman is one of the greatest and one of the most entertaining batsmen in cricketing history. Virender Sehwag (fondly known as Viru) is one of the most hard-hitting batsmen the game has seen. He has entertained the audiences for over a decade, and he is one of the most accomplished and famous cricketers India has seen to date. Let’s see a few of his stats that can prove he is a great batman.
Sehwag has scored 8586 runs in Test Cricket, which also includes 2 TRIPLE CENTURIES! WOW! That is a lot of triple centuries. He has hit 23 hundred and 32 fifties. His highest Test score is 319, which he hit against SA ( South Africa ) in Chennai, 2008.
In ODI he has hit 8273 runs which includes 15 hundreds and 38 fifties. His highest score is 219 which he hit against WI ( West Indies ) on December 8th, 2011.
Sehwag has only played 19 T20 matches. He has hit two 50’s, and his highest score is 68. He has hit only 394 runs in T20 games because he didn’t play many T20 matches.

4. Yuvraj Singh
It is time to talk about a brave hero who played the 2011 World Cup despite having cancer. He even won the man of the tournament award. Can you guys guess who it is? YES! You are right, and it is Yuvraj Singh. Yuvraj Singh is just a magnificent batsman. He keeps on entertaining the fans with HUGE sixes. I mean like it is tough to do that consistently. Anyways let’s look at the stats.
Yuvraj has played 40 Tests, and he has scored 1900 runs. He had an average of 33.9 and a strike rate of 58.0.
Yuvraj has had a promising ODI career. He has played 304 matches, and he has scored 8701 runs in his ODI career. His highest score is 150, which he scored against England in January 2017.
In T20’s, Yuvraj has played 58 matches, and he has hit 1177 runs, including the highest score of 77 runs.
The next batsman is called the wall. Can you guess who it is? Yes! It is Rahul Dravid! So, how about we start talking about him.
5. Rahul Dravid
Rahul Dravid has played 164 Test Matches, and he has scored 13,288 runs. Do you guys know why people called Rahul Dravid the Wall? They call him the wall because he keeps on defending the ball so much that even the ball will lose expectations of getting past Dravid. It is like seeing someone break through the Great Wall Of China.
Rahul Dravid has even had a pretty good ODI career. He has played 344 matches, and he has scored 10,889 runs which is rather remarkable considering that he is more of a Test player.
Dravid, like Tendulkar, has only played 1 T20 match in his entire cricket career. In that one match, he hit 31 runs out of 21 balls.

The next batsman has been a part of one of the most significant partnerships in Indian Cricket History. Yes, it is VVS Laxman.
6. VVS Laxman
VVS has had a decent Test career. VVS has played 134 Test Matches, and he has scored 8781 runs in the 134 matches he played in his career. His highest Test score is 281 runs.
He also had a decent ODI career. In the 86 matches he played, he has scored 2338 runs, includes a high score of 131. Laxman wasn’t a typical ODI or T20 player. He was mainly a Test player.
VVS Laxman didn’t play a single T20 match in his career.

Sourav Ganguly
Fondly known as Dada, we will remember Sourav Ganguly as one of the greatest Captains in Indian Cricket History. Sourav has worked so hard to improve Indian Cricket in the early 2000s, so let’s all take a moment to thank Dada for working so hard for the sport.
Sourav Ganguly had a pretty decent Test career. He played 113 Matches, and in the 113 matches, he has played 7212 runs.
Dada had an outstanding ODI career. He hit 11,363 runs in the 311 matches he has played. He has a good average of 41.0 in ODI’s.
Dada, like VVS, Laxman hasn’t played even a single T20 match in his entire career.

Let’s all take a moment to say Thank You to these beautiful human beings. They have put all their efforts and made Indian Cricket a more exciting and a better place for all the future talents.
