On this special day, let’s take a moment to celebrate the incredible career and leadership of one of the most iconic cricketers of our time. Dhoni’s calm demeanor, sharp cricketing mind, and exceptional skills behind the stumps have earned him the admiration and respect of fans worldwide.
From leading the Indian cricket team to numerous victories, including the memorable 2007 T20 World Cup, 2011 ICC ODI World Cup, 2013 ICC Champions Trophy, the 2010 and 2016 Asia Cups, and winning the 2010 and 2014 Champions League and the IPL 5 times with the Chennai Super Kings.
I know it was yesterday, but I didn’t have the time to make a post. That’s why I am posting today, please forgive me.
Over the last 2 years on his birthday, I have talked about his career (2021) and his milestones (2022).

And today we will be talking about his captaincy, about his sharp cricketing mind. So today we will be looking at 2 of his captaincy tactics which got big players out. Spoiler alert- Both are from the 2023 IPL which CSK won.
1. GT VS CSK Qualifier 1: Hardik Pandya’s Wicket:
This happened in the sixth over of the 2nd Innings, GT had to chase a target of 172 to go to their second consecutive final. The first 5 overs of the match were bowled by pacers and the sixth over was bowled by Maheesh Theekshana. Maheesh Theekshana had bowled the ball a little short and Pandya cut the ball to Moeen Ali who was in front of square. The next ball Dhoni quickly made a change and placed Jadeja on Backward Point. The next ball Theekshana pulled his length and little back and Hardik Pandya played the same cut shot but this time straight into Jadeja’s hand. Many cricketing experts commented saying that-
Dhoni “played With Hardik Pandya’s Ego”
2. CSK VS MI Match 49- Rohit Sharma’s Wicket:
So, in comes Rohit Sharma, after Cameron Green gets out. Why? Because of a Captain MS Dhoni masterclass. So, when Rohit Sharma came to bat, Dhoni instantly felt that he was feeling uncomfortable on the crease. Without wasting any time he went and kept near the stumps for him and tried to restrict his movement as much as possible. On Rohit’s third ball, he tried to play a lap shot and give the strike to Nehal Wadhera, but totally miss hit the ball and gave a lollypop catch to Ravindra Jadeja. The bowler was Deepak Chahar.
