What a dominant performance by RCB yesterday against LSG. Throughout the match, it was all RCB. They bowled and fielded wonderfully to restrict LSG to a low total of 146, and in today’s era of cricket, that is just not a competitive score.
LSG’s bowling was decent, but they had phases where they gave the game away. To their credit, they did manage to pick up half of RCB’s side, but their fielding let them down. Overall, it was a very good day at the office for RCB as they moved to the top of the table.
Now, coming to this match, MI desperately need a win, while Punjab have been sky-rocketing throughout the tournament. If they win this, they’ll go to the top of the table, so this is a crucial game for them.
For Mumbai, they’ve lost three on the trot, and a win could see them jump up to at least 7th, just below GT. It’s an important game for both sides—perhaps more so for MI than PBKS. Let’s get started with this preview.

Pitch and Weather Conditions:
Temperatures in Mumbai have suddenly skyrocketed, with an orange alert issued by the meteorological department. The expected temperature around 7 PM is 29°C, with humidity levels reaching 70–75%. Conditions won’t be easy to play in. However, the pitch is good for batting, as seen in the last game against RCB, so high scores can be expected. The trend at Wankhede has generally been to chase targets, and that’s what we think the captains will look to do.
Prediction:
Punjab Kings have a higher chance of winning this match, and they are also our pick to win, mainly because they’ve been playing at a much higher level than Mumbai Indians. Right now, nothing seems to be clicking for MI.
If we look at Mumbai’s batting, Rohit Sharma may not even play this game, Tilak Varma is out of form, and Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya haven’t been able to convert their starts into big scores. They are playing well in patches, no doubt, but they aren’t putting up match-defining innings. Sherfane Rutherford was the only real positive for them in the last game against RCB.
Coming to the bowling, MI have two of the best pacers in the world in Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult, but even they haven’t looked in their best rhythm. Apart from them, the attack lacks impact. Mitchell Santner has bowled well in phases but has also been a bit expensive. MI really need to find the right combinations before it’s too late.
On the other hand, PBKS look like one of the most balanced teams this season. Their batting has been outstanding, and their bowling unit has stepped up when needed. Take their last game against SRH for example—despite conceding over 100 runs in the powerplay, they did brilliantly to pull things back and restrict SRH to 219. From there, the batting unit took responsibility and chased it down.
It’s been a complete team effort from PBKS, led brilliantly by Shreyas Iyer, who has been leading from the front. If they continue in this form, MI will have to step up massively to challenge them, especially on a batting-friendly ground like the Wankhede.
