Tata IPL M67 – Kohli vs Travishek as SRH Chase 2nd Place

Domination honestly is not a strong enough word to describe what Gujarat Titans did to Chennai Super Kings last night. Carnage. Destruction. Absolute annihilation — that is what GT produced as they officially knocked CSK out of the 2026 IPL playoff race with a massive 89-run victory.

And to make things even worse for Chennai, the defeat became their biggest loss by runs in Tata IPL history.

The absence of MS Dhoni’s experience was painfully visible for the men in yellow. In pressure moments, CSK simply looked lost, lacking the calmness and composure that Dhoni has brought to this franchise for nearly two decades.

But despite the heavy defeat and disappointing season, Chennai have at least begun understanding what life after Dhoni could eventually look like. Young players were forced into responsibility, inexperienced names were pushed into pressure situations, and even though the results did not go their way, there are still lessons this squad can carry forward into the future.

And honestly, even if it is highly unlikely at this stage, fans will still continue hoping for one final return from Dhoni. Because if this truly was the end, it just did not feel right — not for him, and definitely not for the fans who grew up watching him.

It is a massive clash tonight as the Southern Derby takes place one final time in the league stage, with Sunrisers Hyderabad hosting defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru in both teams’ final group-stage match of the season.

SRH will be chasing a huge victory as they aim to secure a top-two finish and book their place in Qualifier 1. RCB, meanwhile, are already guaranteed to finish inside the top two regardless of tonight’s result, meaning they have officially sealed their trip to Dharamshala for the playoffs on May 26th.

But Hyderabad still have plenty left to fight for. A win tonight could confirm their spot alongside RCB in the first qualifier, setting up a blockbuster rematch in Dharamshala.

And honestly, there is something poetic about this fixture too. The two teams that opened the 2026 IPL season against each other are now meeting once again to close out their league-stage campaigns.

Pitch and Weather Conditions:

Pitch No. 2 will be used for the SRH-RCB clash in Hyderabad. Historically, this is one of the highest-scoring surfaces at the venue, and with both teams bristling with hard hitters, runs and more runs are likely to flow. On the last two occasions this surface was used in IPL 2026, SRH scored 242 for 2 against Delhi Capitals and 234 for 4 against Punjab Kings, winning both games batting first. The temperature is expected to be in the late 30s on the Celsius scale with no chance of rain.

Prediction:

We’re backing Sunrisers Hyderabad to win this clash, but probably not by a margin big enough to push them into second place on the table.

And honestly, there is a reason why Royal Challengers Bengaluru are the defending champions and current table toppers — beating them is never easy.

However, this game is being played in Hyderabad on a surface that heavily favours batters, and that is exactly the kind of pitch SRH’s batting lineup loves. On flat tracks where the ball comes nicely onto the bat and bowlers get very little assistance, Hyderabad become one of the most dangerous batting sides in the tournament.

And frankly, there are very few scarier sights in T20 cricket than SRH’s batting lineup attacking on a flat pitch.

That being said, RCB’s batting lineup is no less dangerous. Virat Kohli, Devdutt Padikkal, Rajat Patidar, and especially Tim David are all batters who could absolutely thrive in these conditions as well.

So while SRH may have the slight edge because of home advantage and conditions, this match is likely to be much closer than many people expect.

One thing, however, feels almost guaranteed — the bowlers are probably going to hate every second of this game.
