The league stage is officially done, and now we move on to the playoffs of the Tata IPL — arguably the most exciting phase of the tournament, where the four best teams in the league battle it out for the ultimate prize: the IPL Trophy.
And for those of you who may not be very familiar with how the IPL playoffs work, let us quickly break it down for you.
Unlike leagues such as the NBA, where multiple teams qualify from different conferences, the IPL has only 10 teams and a single points table. At the end of the league stage, only the top four teams qualify for the playoffs.
This season, those four teams are:
- Royal Challengers Bengaluru,
- Gujarat Titans,
- Sunrisers Hyderabad,
- and Rajasthan Royals.
Since RCB and GT finished in the top two positions, they will face each other in Qualifier 1 in Dharamshala. The winner of that match earns a direct ticket to the IPL Final, while the loser gets a second chance by advancing to Qualifier 2.
The third and fourth-placed teams — SRH and RR — will play the Eliminator in Mullanpur. Unlike Qualifier 1, this is a straight knockout game:
- win, and you stay alive,
- lose, and your season is over.
The winner of the Eliminator then advances to Qualifier 2, also being played in Mullanpur, where they will face the loser of Qualifier 1 for the remaining spot in the final.
And finally, the winner of Qualifier 2 will meet the winner of Qualifier 1 in the grand IPL Final, where both teams battle for the trophy and a place in IPL history.
So now that all of us are familiar with how the IPL playoffs work — hello and welcome back to SlogVlog! In today’s post, we’ll be looking at everything you need to know before the top two teams of the season, Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Gujarat Titans, battle it out in Dharamshala tonight for a direct place in the IPL Final in Qualifier 1.

Head to Head:
| Matches- | 8 |
| RCB Won- | 4 |
| GT Won- | 4 |
| No Result- | 0 |
Pitch and Weather Conditions:
Both the night matches in Dharamsala were skewed towards the chasing side. A square with tufty grass, no matter how dry, starts with the ball holding a touch and then settles down as the temperature comes down. Add to it a small outfield and the rarefied air of the hills, and it becomes extremely difficult to defend totals. Remember what Tilak Varma said of batting in the night: set yourselves up for slower balls, and swing “blindly” if it is quick because even half hits and mis-hits fly. The weather is set clear so we will have an outright winner.

Prediction:
What a matchup we have for the first Qualifier of this IPL season. Royal Challengers Bengaluru, who have been in sensational form for almost the last year now, face a Gujarat Titans side that is currently enjoying one of the most dominant runs in franchise history.
GT look absolutely destructive with both bat and ball. As simple as it sounds to say “just get their top three out,” teams throughout the season have discovered that it is one of the hardest things to do in the tournament. Their top order has consistently delivered under pressure, and their bowling attack has arguably been the most dangerous in the IPL this year. Honestly, the GT bowlers look like they are bowling the cricket of their lives right now, and this team genuinely feels scary heading into the playoffs.
RCB, on the other hand, are playing exactly like defending champions should. They may not look completely unbeatable, but they are the kind of team that forces opponents to play near-perfect cricket if they want to defeat them. Their batting lineup has been absolutely outstanding throughout the season, consistently rescuing them in difficult situations and overpowering bowling attacks. Their bowling may still be slightly weaker compared to GT’s, but their batting strength has covered that weakness brilliantly.
And that is exactly what makes this clash so fascinating — these genuinely feel like two incredibly evenly matched teams. Their head-to-head record is level, they finished on the same number of points this season, and in terms of overall squad quality and performances, there is barely anything separating them.
Honestly, we genuinely do not know who to pick here. This has all the ingredients to become one of the best matches of the season.
