ICC Women’s T20 World Cup: Bangladesh face Netherlands in Match 5:

What a magnificent Triple-Header Saturday we had yesterday, especially that final game. I was wrong to say that the West Indies aren’t the force they once were, because they certainly proved otherwise. The Women in Maroon pulled off a thrilling victory against defending champions New Zealand, with Shemaine Campbelle leading the chase brilliantly with an unbeaten 90*. Chasing 163 against a team of New Zealand’s quality is never easy, but the West Indies held their nerve to begin their 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup campaign in style. Heartbreak for New Zealand, pure elation for the West Indies.

Coming to the other two matches, Scotland and Australia both secured comfortable victories over Ireland and South Africa respectively. Scotland continued their impressive rise with a convincing win in just their second Women’s T20 World Cup campaign, while Australia reminded everyone why they remain one of the most feared teams in world cricket.

But the action doesn’t stop there. It’s Super Sunday, and that means we have a Double-Header Sunday ahead of us. Two more matches await, including a clash between arch-rivals that we’ll get to in our next post.

Pitch and Weather Conditions:

We return to Edgbaston after two days, with both of today’s World Cup matches set to be played at this iconic venue. The weather in Birmingham is expected to be pleasantly cloudy, and given that this is a morning fixture, the overhead conditions should provide plenty of assistance for the seamers early on.

Unlike the England-Sri Lanka match, which was played in the evening, this game begins at 10:30 AM BST, making it difficult to draw too many conclusions from that contest. The conditions will be quite different, and with a good amount of humidity around and cloud cover overhead, the fast bowlers could have a bigger role to play.

Temperatures are expected to range between 14°C and 20°C throughout the match, making for comfortable playing conditions. Overall, it looks like a classic English cricket day at Edgbaston, where batters may have to work a little harder early on before conditions become easier as the game progresses.

Prediction:

Both teams come into this game after disappointing warm-up campaigns, having lost both of their preparation matches. However, Bangladesh and the Netherlands faced each other very recently in a Tri-Series involving Scotland, giving us a pretty good idea of how these two sides match up against one another.

Bangladesh won two and lost two of their matches in that tournament, while the Netherlands managed just one victory. The two teams faced each other twice, with both sides winning one game each. So while the head-to-head record from that series is perfectly balanced, overall form, experience, and pedigree give Bangladesh a slight edge heading into this contest.

This is the Netherlands’ first-ever Women’s T20 World Cup, while Bangladesh are appearing in their seventh. And there’s a reason they’ve been a regular presence at this tournament. That’s not to say the Netherlands aren’t capable of causing an upset — they defeated Bangladesh just a couple of weeks ago and proved they can compete at this level. But Bangladesh responded by beating them in the reverse fixture a few days later, showing their ability to bounce back.

We’re backing Bangladesh to start their World Cup campaign with a victory. However, if the Netherlands play to their full potential, they certainly have what it takes to make history and begin their first-ever Women’s T20 World Cup journey with a memorable win.
