The two teams have never faced each other in a T20I before, making today’s clash the first-ever meeting between India and the Netherlands in the shortest format. Hopefully, it’s the first of many encounters between these two sides in the years to come.
Pitch and Weather Conditions:
Given that this match is being played on the same pitch that hosted the Australia-Bangladesh game earlier in the day, the surface could become a little slower as the match progresses. While there may not be a significant difference in the first innings, the second innings could see the pitch offering a bit more assistance to the bowlers, especially the spinners.
The weather is expected to remain cloudy throughout the afternoon, and those overhead conditions should provide some help for the seamers, particularly with the new ball. However, with this being an afternoon fixture, dew is not expected to play a role.
Taking all of that into account, batting first appears to be the smarter option. Teams will want to make the most of the fresher surface before any signs of wear begin to creep in later in the game.
Prediction:
We’re backing the Women in Blue to take the win against the Netherlands. The Dutch side are making their debut at the Women’s T20 World Cup and are still relatively inexperienced at this level. This will also be the first-ever T20I meeting between India and the Netherlands, adding another interesting chapter to the fixture.
The last time these two teams faced each other in international cricket was in an ODI 26 years ago, a match India won by 154 runs. Of course, a lot has changed since then, and those results have little bearing on today’s contest. What does matter, however, is the quality and form of the current Indian side, which looks stronger than ever after their dominant victory over Pakistan.
That doesn’t mean the Netherlands should be taken lightly. They have talented players and have earned their place at this tournament. But after losing to Bangladesh and now facing one of the favourites for the title, they’re going to need something special to pull off an upset.
For now, we’re backing India to continue their strong start to the tournament and pick up another important victory.
