Tata IPL M48: Another must-win game for DC and CSK in Delhi

This is the Mumbai Indians we know. The five-time champions gave us a glimpse of their true identity as they dismantled LSG’s bowling attack at the Wankhede Stadium, chasing down their highest-ever target—229—in just 18.4 overs.

MI’s very own five-time title-winning captain, Rohit Sharma, returned to the side—and what a comeback it was. He tore into the LSG bowlers with a magnificent 84, leading the charge from the front. He wasn’t alone either, as Ryan Rickelton provided excellent support at the top, scoring a brilliant 83 and continuing his fine form.

Coming to LSG, there are definite positives to take away—especially their batting. For the first time in a while, their batters showed intent and played like a proper unit, racing to 90 runs in the powerplay.

Another major boost for them was Nicholas Pooran finding form. He absolutely dominated MI’s spinners, launching them all over the park and smashing a fiery 63 off just 21 balls. This was the Nicholas Pooran we’re used to seeing—fearless, destructive, and game-changing.

A big positive outing for LSG’s batting—but on the night, MI were simply too strong.

As we continue “Revenge Week” in the Tata IPL, today’s clash sees Delhi Capitals take on Chennai Super Kings. It’s a must-win game for both sides, setting up what promises to be an exciting contest.

Both teams come into this match on the back of strong victories—DC chased down RR’s 226 convincingly, while CSK comfortably won the El Clásico, defeating MI by 8 wickets.

With momentum on both sides, it’ll be interesting to see who comes out on top. Let’s get started!

Expected Playing 11:

DC:

  1. KL Rahul (WK)
  2. Pathum Nissanka
  3. Nitish Rana
  4. Tristian Stubbs
  5. Ashutosh Sharma

  7. Axar Patel (C)
  8. Vipraj Nigam
  9. Mitchell Starc
  10. Kuldeep Yadav
  11. Lungi Ngidi

Impact Player- T. Natarajan

Boost for DC—Lungi Ngidi has recovered from his head and neck injury and is likely to return to the playing XI tonight.

CSK:

  1. Sanju Samson (WK)
  2. Ruturaj Gaikwad (C)
  3. Urvil Patel
  4. Dewald Brevis
  5. Shivam Dube

  8. Akeal Hosain/Spencer Johnson/Prashant Veer
  9. Noor Ahmed
  10. Anshul Khamboj
  11. Mukesh Choudhary

Impact Player- Gurjapneet Singh

With CSK’s promising debutant Ramakrishna Ghosh ruled out due to a leg fracture, they could either bring back Akeal Hosain, try someone new like Spencer Johnson, or place their faith in the ₹14.20 crore uncapped player, Prashant Veer.

As for MS Dhoni, his return is still uncertain—and honestly, as fans, it’s getting frustrating. Day after day, we keep waiting for him to return, but there’s still no confirmed timeline or any positive update from the CSK camp.

Pitch and Weather Conditions:

The variety we’ve seen at this stadium over the last few weeks has been incredible. From a 529-run thriller—where DC scored 264 and PBKS chased it down—to a low-scoring game where DC were bowled out for just 75 by RCB, we’ve seen it all.

It’ll be interesting to see what the captain opts for at the toss, but low-scoring games like that are quite rare in the IPL—it was more a case of exceptional bowling than pitch behaviour. So, you can probably expect a 200+ total in the first innings.

Coming to the weather, it’s not as hot as usual, but still a warm evening in Delhi. Temperatures are expected to be around 31°C before the game, dropping to 28°C later on. Humidity will rise from 44% to about 54%, suggesting there could be some dew—though not as much as venues like Mumbai or Bengaluru.

Overall, the conditions aren’t too harsh, and with both teams carrying good momentum into this game, you can expect a competitive and entertaining contest.

Prediction:

Two strong-looking sides, both carrying good momentum into this clash—but who takes the win in this must-win encounter?

We’re backing Chennai Super Kings to come out on top. Delhi Capitals have been one of the most unpredictable teams this season. At times, even they don’t seem to know how a game will unfold. Their last two home matches, as mentioned earlier, have been extremely demoralising, and they haven’t looked like a confident side at home. While both teams have been inconsistent, DC have been far more erratic than CSK.

If you look at recent performances, DC’s bowling has been a concern. They’ve conceded 200+ totals in two of their last three games, and RCB chased down 75 in just 6.3 overs. With CSK’s batting now looking more settled, they’ll be eager to capitalise on those weaknesses.

That said, DC are far from out of this contest. KL Rahul, on his day, can dismantle any bowling attack, and CSK’s bowling—while good—is not invincible. With the kind of form Rahul is in, he could single-handedly tilt the game in DC’s favour.

Another area DC can target is CSK’s middle order. It hasn’t been consistent this season. While a few players have shown flashes, the stability just hasn’t been there. If DC manage early breakthroughs, CSK’s middle order could come under serious pressure.

However, removing CSK’s in-form top order isn’t going to be easy. With reliable performers at the top and enough firepower around them, CSK have the edge in overall balance. And if their key batters get going, they can take the game away quickly.

DC also have a major weapon in Mitchell Starc. If he strikes early and sets the tone, this could turn into a much tighter contest than expected.

Still, based on current form and overall balance, CSK start as slight favourites—but this one could go down to the wire.

Until next time!

Thank you.
