Another thrilling finish in the Tata IPL, as GT chased down 164 off the penultimate ball, thanks to crucial contributions from Washington Sundar and Arshad Khan. The win earned them two more points and brought them level with the teams placed second, third, and fourth on the table.
This victory marks a hat-trick of wins for GT and also kickstarts a losing streak for PBKS, who now need to rethink their strategy if they want to hold on to a top-two spot.
It also makes life tougher for teams climbing from the bottom, like CSK, DC, and KKR. This season is turning out to be an exciting one.
Coming to the upcoming match, it’s a battle between the bottom two sides as Mumbai Indians take on Lucknow Super Giants at one of the most iconic venues—the Wankhede Stadium. The stakes are simple: the winner climbs to ninth place (for now), while the loser remains at the bottom of the table.
That said, this is a must-win game for both teams. Mumbai Indians can now reach a maximum of 14 points, which realistically puts them on the brink of elimination, especially considering that several of the current top teams are already around the 12-point mark. MI will need nothing short of a miracle from here.
LSG are in a similar situation. They likely need to win all six of their remaining games to reach 16 points—what looks like the minimum required for qualification this season. Given their current form, that’s a very tall order.
At this stage, both teams may also need to think beyond just qualification. Finalising a stable playing combination and identifying a core group for next season could be just as important. Because right now, not much seems to be clicking for either side.
Qualification is still mathematically possible—but realistically, both teams need to focus on finding answers and building towards the future.

Pitch and Weather Condition:
The Wankhede Stadium has been a paradise for batters this season. The ball comes nicely onto the bat, carries well, and the presence of dew only makes things easier as the game progresses. Expect conditions to remain similar tonight, with a score around 200—now quite common in the IPL—very much on the cards.
This kind of pitch could be exactly what LSG’s batters need to finally express themselves, especially after a lean run so far. As for MI, this is their fortress. They’ve batted well here against most teams this season, barring CSK, and will back themselves to put up a strong performance again.
Coming to the weather, Mumbai will be hot and humid as always, with temperatures around 31°C at 8 PM and humidity levels nearing 70%. Dew is expected, but rain isn’t. The sea breeze might assist the fast bowlers early on, offering a bit of swing and extra pace—but that same pace also helps the ball come onto the bat better.
After the first few overs, though, conditions heavily favour the batters. With dew likely to play a role, chasing should be the preferred option—and that’s what we can expect tonight.
Prediction:
We’re going with Mumbai Indians to win this one—by the smallest of margins.
Both teams have struggled a lot this season—whether it’s finding the right combinations, capitalising on key moments, or showing the intent required at this level. Honestly, they’ve struggled with almost everything you can point out. In many ways, these two sides are evenly matched—but there’s one key difference: batting.
MI, on their day, can be a seriously dangerous batting side—we’ve seen that multiple times this season. When they get going, they speak through their bat. In fact, it’s probably the only department that has clicked consistently for them more often than not. But the problem is balance—when their batting fires, the bowling doesn’t, and when the bowling steps up, the batting goes quiet. That inconsistency has hurt them badly.
LSG, on the other hand, haven’t looked like a team you’d be intimidated by this season. Yes, they’ve picked up a couple of wins, but those were close, hard-fought thrillers. Apart from that, very little has gone their way. Right now, nothing seems to be clicking for them.
The frustrating part is that, on paper, their batting lineup is strong. You’ve got Mitchell Marsh, who can be destructive, Aiden Markram with his elegance, Rishabh Pant who can dominate the middle overs, Ayush Badoni who can do the same, and finishers like Nicholas Pooran and Mukul Choudhary. The talent is there—but the form simply isn’t.
And that’s been their biggest issue, especially with the captain going through a disappointing season. If LSG’s batting finally clicks, they absolutely have a chance to grab those two crucial points. But if it doesn’t, even a struggling MI side should have just enough to edge past them.
If you want to see Rishabh Pant’s LSG go up against Hardik Pandya’s MI in MI’s fortress, then tune into JioHotstar at 7:30 PM IST.
Until next time!
